Travelling

We had lots of fun in Fredericksburg, VA after travelling all day.

LM woke up at 4:30 am that morning. So we all got up and started moving. We had already packed the rental minivan the day before, so only had a few things to bring down. After a quick stop at Dunkin Donuts, we were on our way by 5:30 am.

We hit PA by 8 am, though we didn't leave PA until 1 pm. We had two walking stops and lunch which added on to the time we were in PA. However, we still managed to hit Fredericksburg by 3 pm as I had guessed weeks before.

The Inn at the Olde Silk Mill was quaint, though we didn't spend much time in our room. We set off on foot towards Old Town which is about 6 blocks from the Inn. We walked along Caroline St which told you all the historic information about the buildings, and even the dates they were built. It was around 50 degrees, so we enjoyed walking around with no winter coats. We checked out some shops, and then headed back to the Inn for our coats.

We then headed back towards Old Town to eat at FoodE. We got there about 5:30 pm and it was crowded inside already. One of the wait staff let us know it'd be a 20 minute wait to get a table that we could sit at with the high chair, unless we wanted to eat outside. Since it was gorgeous (to us) we agreed. They even turned on a outdoor heater on for us.

K stated that her pork chop was amazing. It was nice and moist. Her greens were yummy too, since she doesn't eat them, I had the pleasure. Actually she said it was the best pork chop and mashed potatoes she ever ate. I might have to agree...

We were also lucky enough to show up on Wednesday for fried chicken. Which is what I ordered. Can I say best fried chicken I've ever had? Where I live we only had KFC growing up. Popeye's recently came to Destiny USA. We only discovered Bojangles' last year. Bo wins best commercially fried chicken, but this was tasty! Chicken was perfect, complemented wonderfully with greens and cheesy grits. I was in love.

LM didn't eat great, but we attributed it to all the snacks on the way down. I'll leave you with some more pictures of our experience of FoodE.

North Carolina

We haven't even embarked on our trip and I'm already writing about out destination. I'm just thrilled to be heading back. To spend time with Papa Sr and GG. To finally meet our niece and LM's cousin, J, who turns 1 in April.

I'm looking forward to the relaxing.

I'm even looking forward to potty training LM while we are there. That takes some guts right?

Papa Sr and GG want to take us on some overnights while we are there. We are going to go back to the beach, oh how we love the beach. Plus we are going to check out the North Carolina Zoo. Did I mention we will be there for Easter? Amazing!

I'm hoping for nicer weather than Syracuse has. I want to wear shorts and tshirts. I want to spend hours outside.

Until then, I'm counting down the days!

Vacation

Vacation is coming upon us and I'm ready to go.

The family and I are getting ready to embark on quite the road trip. Destination: Clayton, NC.
We are going to visit my wife's grandparents. Little Monster is ready to see Papa Sr and GG. Papa Sr might even take LM to a construction site!

This is the longest car ride I've ever taken K on, let alone LM. K gets car sick easily, LM I'm just afraid of how he'll handle long periods in his car seat.

Here's a sample of the upcoming details:
Wednesday morning: Wake up between 5-5:30 am (like we do every morning K works). Let LM get all of the milky he needs. Hop in the rental car, first stop Dunkin Donuts down the street.
Random stop in probably Pennsylvania to stretch our bodies, maybe lunch.
Arrive by 3 pm in Fredericksburg, Virginia to check into our room at The Inn at the Olde Silk Mill. One night for $59 thanks to groupon. Explore the area, then decide on dinner. Possibilities include: Park Lane Tavern (Groupon for $15 equals $30 worth of food), Famous Dave's (was delicious in Rochester, NY), or FoodE which is really my type of place- order at the counter, kids menu, locally sourced (Slow Food), oh and Wednesdays they do fried chicken. The chef is from Atlanta, meaning really southern fried chicken? Oh and dessert at Carl's, love frozen custard!
Thursday morning: Leave by 7, yes that means missing out on the free breakfast. However, we want to get to Papa Sr and GG's around lunch time. Probably pick up something quick, eat the snacks in the car, or possibly eating down the street at 2400 Diner. The best route would avoid Raleigh, however, we have two stops in the area. Whole Foods for produce, and to look at their beer selection. Then Trader Joe's for the rest of our needs. See we are picking up lunch items and some breakfast stuff. Our time in Clayton isn't really about eating out, though Bojangles' is on the list.

Realistically this trip is about time together as a family. I'm using up 96 hours of PTO, as well as a grand total of 6 normal days off. I'm ready to just live in the moment, instead of what needs to be done next.
